Engineering

Though I have retired from corporate work, I continue to work on engineering problems that capture my curiosity. This is where I publish articles describing that work. You can visit the Science & Math pageĀ to read about some of the underlying basics. You can also visit my professional page, ExN Consulting, if you want to know more about my engineering pursuits.

Hot Plates

This article derives a constitutive equation for the radiative heat transfer across a series of parallel plates.
This is a key result for modeling high temperature thermal batteries and is the entry point to my development of that model.

Simple Thermal Battery Model

This article derives a simple model for a high temperature thermal battery. It is an intermediate analysis on the way to a full featured model. Though simplistic, this model teaches much about the physics at play in these thermal batteries and allows us to do some scoping/estimating calculations to frame battery behavior in terms of the fundamental physics and physical properties.
